We are looking for a talented and experienced Service Captain with Sommelier duties to join our team of hospitality professionals. Holeman and Finch is a classic gastropub, presenting artisanal twists on classic dishes with a whole animal, whole vegetable philosophy. With a robust wine list and original, inspired cocktails, there's something for everybody at every time of day. The charming space is filled with cozy booths and over 150 pieces of thoughtfully curated art. In every corner, the restaurant nods to the vibrant arts scene found in Midtown. We currently hold a Wine Spectator Award of Excellence for our wine program.

 What is the Job?  

In this role, you will be responsible for engaging with and taking care of our guests, guiding them through our menus and building trusted relationships. You will create a welcoming and memorable experience by providing guests menu and brand insight and actively engaging with guest needs and questions. You will be an active communicator between the front of house and back of house, keeping all informed of allergies, special requests, and service flow. This position will support managers in training new servers and backservers, occasionally lead lineup, and will assist in fostering a curious, engaged, and professional team.

Further, you will assist in evolving the wine program and will train and supervise our service team in the standards of classic wine service. You will lead wine classes and tastings to foster a culture of curiosity and care for our wine program at Holeman and Finch. You must be thoroughly knowledgeable concerning the beer, spirits, and cocktails offered and fully versed on our food menu to assist with pairings and recommendations. 

 What are the responsibilities?  

  • Assist managers with training new server candidates and creating wine training programs
  • Assist in inventory & ordering with a focus on wine program
  • Occasionally leads lineup & tastings
  • Supports managers with guest engagement and service flow
  • Guiding guests from the beginning to the end of their dining experience 
  • Setting up the restaurant in preparation for and during service 

  • Consistent adherence to the uniform policy  

  • Reports for duty on time and manages one’s shift, communicating with the management team when leaving their station for breaks or family meal

  What are the requirements?  

  • Weekend (Friday, Saturday, and Sunday) availability required
  • Must be 18 years of age or older  
  • 5+ year(s) of relevant server experience , with supervisory/lead experience of 1+ year preferred
  • Excellent wine knowledge with experience in wine service, food and beverage pairing, wine buying
  • WSET, CSW, CMS, or equivalent wine certifications preferred
  • Able to move and/or lift heavier product  

  • Able to stand for long periods of time; occasionally kneel, bend, and crouch as required to reach items at varying height levels  

  • Able to work in a fast-paced environment calmly and effectively
